Chanukah celebrates the Jews liberating the Land and Holy Temple from secularist tyranny in 139 BCE. After fearless Maccabean resistance, the enemy -- consisting of a foreign pagan superpower who sought to impose a hellenist New World Order, and their hordes of not-so-foreign hellenizing Jews who had collaborated with their Seleucid overlords for decades -- was finally purged from the Land and their detestable idolatry removed.
