It's Father's Day today, the first one in my life in which I cannot call my father to wish him a Happy Father’s Day. On this Father’s Day, I am deeply missing my own father, even though I was blessed to have him in my life for nearly five decades. I miss being able to visit or call him and share some laughs with him about what's going on in my life, and to seek his advice regarding areas in my life that could benefit from paternal guidance.
When you talk about how the state does this, I realize that this is something the African American community has dealt with for generations. From housing projects, welfare, jobs that pay extremely low wages, such as teacher assistants, and the massive incarceration of black men, the go v. has taken away a community's autonomy. Now that they've done such a good job on that community, they are going after the next and then the next.
As always, your words resonate deeply with me. My ex-husband succeeded in alienating my oldest of three sons from me. The alienation extends to all those associated with me, including my 89 y.o. mother, who was and continues to be a loving grandmother. Thank you for addressing this evil.
