The “tunnel” was discovered b/c a plumbing project nearby excavated a trench and discovered it. Not complicated.

comin' ta the party exceedin'ly late but I will say one thing--apart from this "insanity" in Crown Heights (I heard the stew-dents from Israel wanted to revive Rebbe Schneerson not believing he died?!--crazy stuff but not criminal), however the majority of the community in Williamsburg -- which was the neib. next to my old one an' which I passed thru often--went about life as usual.
They didn't wear masks, stores stayed open--I'm near certain they didn't get jabbed--at one point they even burned masks in a bonfire. AND they held services per usual--when not allowed to do it indoors they did it outside--in the streets (sure, they do this anyway as there aren't enough seats an' congregations spill out). An' big crowds, folks close together.... I saw lotsa non-compliance an' goin' 'bout life as usual. (I hope this is heartenin' news)
Methinks that even if some rabbis shamelessly took the money an' shilled for big pharma--plenty of local Orthodox (at least in my neck 'o the woods) just lived their lives an' ignored the entire thing--I heard in Monsey too (Dr. Zev's territory) Plenty of strong willed folks with (as my grannie said) "neshuma" i.e. guts / soul to fight back.
